Thank you to the 1,250+ people who signed our petition to Rep. Antonio Delgado on H.R. 2407. There were so many more of you than we thought.
Maybe the petition struck a chord in this period of social upheaval. If we can't protect children against abuse and mistreatment, what good is all our activism? The racism we see directed at Palestinian children in the Holy Land is the very same racism that we see directed towards Black youths in America. The fight to end oppression and discrimination has no national boundaries.
And where does Rep. Delgado stand? He cancelled our planned meeting with him, and replaced it with a meeting with his aide. Since we didn't get to speak with Rep. Delgado himself, we are sharing our opinions with you. Please check out our short video.
We are still asking Rep. Delgado to meet with us and discuss H.R. 2407, the bill that would promote justice, equality and human rights for children globally. Can you call him? His DC office offers you a recording machine where you can leave your message. I just did it, and it took me three minutes.

I said that I wanted Rep. Delgado to meet with local human rights groups on H.R. 2407, a law that would deny military aid to countries that routinely use torture, sensory deprivation, solitary confinement, and arbitrary detention on children. I said that he should be sponsoring this bill rather than running away from it.
