Kingston rally: stop the genocide!

KINGSTON, N.Y. — About 150 protesters chanted, sang, blocked the roadway and set up seven popup tents at a demonstration Friday in front of the district office of U.S. Rep. Pat Ryan in Uptown, calling on the congressman to denounce Israeli “genocide” in Gaza.

As the demonstrators chanted in front of Ryan’s office at 307 Wall St., others gained access to the building’s roof and lowered banners, one with the names of some of the more than 22,000 Palestinians who have died since Hamas militants invaded Israel on Oct. 7 killing about 1,200 Israelis and taking hundreds hostage. Another banner read, “Pat Ryan: stop the genocide” and a third stated, “90 Days, 22,000 killed.” ...

Speaker Anne Ames of Wednesday Walk for Black Lives, addressed the crowd, asking, “How many more innocent people need to die for our elected officials to realize that this is not making anyone safer? The people of Gaza are telling us that no place is safe. I feel that for us too. No place is made safer; no one is safer. Our politicians need to stop pretending that there’s not a genocide unfolding before our eyes. That’s why I’m here.”
